It’s midnight; you’re craving a soda, so you head out in your pyjama to the nearest shop—the kind that stays open scandalously late. Greeted by an automated "Hola! Bienvenidos!", you step into an aisle bathed in light that feels dim and unnaturally cold for sunny Barcelona. You spot a neighbour wearing quirky socks and exchange a smiling nod; you don’t know exactly where he lives, but you’re definitely neighbours this is far from your first midnight encounter here. After grabbing the coveted can, you face a weary clerk at the checkout, parting ways silently once you’ve paid “con tarjeta y sin bolsa, por favor”.
It is fascinating to consider that this shop—which, both conceptually and visually, seems to clash with the image of Barcelona that “tranquila” aesthetic, the leisurely work culture, the polished tourist attraction—feels more comfortable and familiar to visit than an art space.
In her new project Cosis, Anna Andrzhievskaia transforms the Tangent Projects to mimic its neighbour, Condis. The supermarket ruins strip away any sense of sanctity or the feel of a pristine "cabinet of curiosities," turning the space instead into a liminal repository of mundane, unremarkable objects. The ironic title Cosis alludes to this, playing on the Spanish word “cosas”—“little things" or “knick-knacks” and at the same time Catalan “cos” - “body”. Or perhaps it hints at hyper-consumption—where the act of visiting a retail environment becomes the primary narrative, and actually buying something is merely an afterthought.
Instead of an "exit strategy," a floor plan on the wall invites you to walk down the corridor and take a seat usually hidden from customers: the security monitor’s chair, which broadcasts the speculative archives of a thoroughly speculative establishment.
The space itself becomes a medium for artistic production when, rather than serving merely as a tool for displaying artworks, it resembles either a bankrupt, abandoned venue or a new business undergoing renovation—poised to open its doors to midnight visitors.

Anna Andrzhievskaia is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Barcelona. She explores themes of migration and the female gaze.
Anna is interested how art can serve as a means of non-verbal communication and facilitate the search for cultural intersections. Her artistic language was formed out of exploration of performative and visual arts within public spaces and transformed into painting and sculpture as a main practice.
Anna has participated in the SWAB fair (2023) and the Art Nou festival (2024). She is a cofounder of the art group “North-7,” which was awarded the Present Continuous prize from the V-A-C foundation in collaboration with the MHKA museum in Antwerp (2018). In 2021, Anna received a special award from the French Institute in the field of contemporary art in honor of Sergei Kurekhin.
Bogdana Skorik is a curator, researcher, and writer working across contemporary art institutions, biennials, and independent spaces. Her practice explores translingual mediation, spatial politics, and experimental curatorial formats that expand institutional accessibility, linguistic inclusion, and community-driven production.
She was a selected participant for the (crear) Situaciones programme at Centre d’art Santa Mònica. Her practice spans from independent and unconventional contexts to government-supported institutions, with projects presented at CLUB9, Centre d’Art Mèdol, V-A-C Foundation, Tangent Projects, Art Nou, Unser Ebertplatz, the University of Barcelona among others. She has been part of the long-term research project Gallery in the Expanded Field, worked with Manifesta 15, was an invited speaker at MACBA (III Jornadas Profesionales), and contributed research to the UAE Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale.
Currently, Bogdana serves as Chief Curator at Afterschool Department and directs her own nomadic curatorial project ARQA. Her work and writing have been published in Cultura y Ciudadanía (Spanish Ministry of Culture), Architectural Digest (AD), Tique Art, ContraCultural, METAL Magazine, The Posttraumatic, Les Nouveaux Riches, ArtJunk DE, and other international art publications.
