Tangent Projects Studio Residency Winter/Spring 2023

For our Winter/Spring 2023 residency programme we are very happy to share space with Livia Harper & Lourdes Peñaranda to Tangent Projects studios.

Many thanks to the selection team - Paloma Chavez Muente, Viola Menzendorff, Sejal Parekh and Jorge Sánchez.

Livia Harper is a British artist, born and raised in London. Having recently obtained her Fine Art BA from Chelsea College of Arts, London, Livia has partaken in many exhibitions throughout the UK, most recently at The Crypt Gallery, Euston and SET, Woolwich.

Livia’s practice sits in-between film, animation, coding, writing and installation. With works usually existing, as kinetic sculptures, they seek to establish the relationships between creativity, solitude and science, highlighting that nothing exists in isolation. Using a mix of old and new media, poetic rhythms begin in writing and trickle down to immersive physicality.

Livia is fascinated by emerging technologies and the ethical questions and dilemmas which surround them. Constantly working in-between spaces, Livia uses contradictions to explore the ideas which arise from a practice situated in a pre-post-historic apocalypse, one where digital emporiums have been created to harbour personal memories in an attempt to connect with the experiences of others.

Accompanying her artistic endeavours, Livia has co-founded The Creative Robotics Collective, an initiative of robotics/programming-based workshops focused on addressing the gender disparity of STEM-based subjects in the UK education system as well as holding the position of writer at a charity working around misogynistic culture. Livia welcomes her residency at Tangent Projects as a chance to deep dive research the topics of interest to her with like-minded artists.

Lourdes Peñaranda, holds an Emeritus Professor position in the Theory and Practice of Design at the School of Architecture at Zulia University.

She is a multi-disciplinary artist and researcher with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the fields of design and architecture. Lourdes is an active researcher, with a focus on the theory and history of landscape, architecture, art, and design education. She has published numerous works on these subjects, and is the author of the book "El espacio de la ilusión. El caso de Donald Judd." She has also participated in international artist-in-residence programs, including residencies at the Art Incubator in Singapore, RudAir in Sweden, and REART at Casa Planas. As well as the Studio Residency Program at Tangent Projects, she will also participate in a residency in Fabra i Coats (Barcelona) in 2023. Lourdes is an associated artist at La Escocesa in Barcelona.
